Ties with International Sister-Cities

Ch'unch'on City
Kangwon, the Republic of Korea
The city is the seat
of government for Kangwon Prefecture and is a center
of politics, economy, society and culture. Surrounded
by beautiful mountains and rivers, the city is visited
by many tourists.
In 1995 the city united with nearby villages to form
a prefectural capital with about 230,000 population.
The city's essential role is still that of an educational,
cultural and sightseeing town, though in recent years
pioneering industries centered on high technology
have been created. |

Monroe Michigan,
U.S.A.
Monroe, with a population
of about 25,000, lies about 50km south of Detroit
and faces lake Erie, one of the five Great Lakes.
The Raisin River, which runs through the city center,
flows into lake Erie. Monroe Bay is a commercial port,
characterized as a product distribution center.
The main industry of the city is agriculture, though
in recent years automobile and furniture industries
have developed. |
