International Friendship-Exchange Forum (sponsored by the Hofu International Friendship-Association). The exchange of friendship between the citizens of Hofu and foreign people living in Hofu.

The Hofu City's Youth Overseas Delegation (in Ch'unch'on City, Kangwon, korea). Young people of both cities visited the Soyanggang Festival, the biggest in this area (in Korea).

Hofu City's Young Students Language Learning Project (in Monroe, Michigan, U.S.A.). With host families after the end of a 3-week English language course.

Ties with International Sister-Cities


Ch'unch'on City Kangwon, the Republic of Korea
The city is the seat of government for Kangwon Prefecture and is a center of politics, economy, society and culture. Surrounded by beautiful mountains and rivers, the city is visited by many tourists.
In 1995 the city united with nearby villages to form a prefectural capital with about 230,000 population. The city's essential role is still that of an educational, cultural and sightseeing town, though in recent years pioneering industries centered on high technology have been created.


Monroe Michigan, U.S.A.
Monroe, with a population of about 25,000, lies about 50km south of Detroit and faces lake Erie, one of the five Great Lakes. The Raisin River, which runs through the city center, flows into lake Erie. Monroe Bay is a commercial port, characterized as a product distribution center.
The main industry of the city is agriculture, though in recent years automobile and furniture industries have developed.
